Dolfin's Data section holds a table for every data source your compensation logic relies on, and you can add as many custom tables as you need. This guide walks you through creating one - choosing a table type, naming it, and assigning it to the teams that should be able to use it.
👋 Before you begin: a custom table can be one of two types, and the type you pick can't be changed later. A Records table is a standard table for storing your business records - use it for anything that doesn't map to a single number per person. A KPI table holds one row per user per period (month, quarter or year), which makes it the right shape for bonuses driven by a single tracked metric.
Here's what will be covered in this article:
Open the Table Creator
Go to Data in the left sidebar and click Add new. A dialog opens with the available table types: Records, KPI, and View (a saved, filtered view of an existing data source - covered in a separate guide).
Choose Records to configure a custom records table, then click Next.
Name Your Table
The dialog moves to Configure Records. Type a name for your table in the Name field - something specific enough to tell it apart from your other tables, since this is what shows up throughout Dolfin wherever the table is referenced.
If you picked the wrong table type, Change takes you back to the type selector without losing your place. Otherwise, click Next to move on to team assignment.
Assign Teams
Select every team that should be able to use this table. Use the search box to narrow a long list.
⚠️ Important: assign every team that should have access before you create the table. If a record in this table later gets linked to someone on a team you didn't assign, Dolfin will raise an error rather than let the reference resolve - so it's worth getting the list right the first time rather than fixing it after the fact.
Click a team to select it - it highlights and gets a checkmark, and Create becomes enabled once at least one team is picked.
Create the Table
Click Create. Your new table is added under Custom Tables in the Data sidebar, where you can start adding fields, applying formulas, and uploading data into it.
